Two footballing greats from 1950s

Tommy Banks was a tough-tackling left-back who played for Bolton Wanderers from 1947 to 1961, making over 200 appearances. He starred in Bolton’s 1958 FA Cup-winning team and earned six England caps, including at the 1958 World Cup. Known for his fierce determination, Banks was a true defensive stalwart.

Sir Stanley Matthews was one of football’s greatest wingers, renowned for his dribbling, sportsmanship, and longevity. Playing for Stoke City and Blackpool, he won the 1953 FA Cup with a legendary performance. The first Ballon d’Or winner (1956), he earned 54 England caps and played professionally until age 50.
